Experience Leader



An experience leader will lead animal events, educate participants, provide good customer service and ensure the safe handling and transportation of our animals. Experience leaders will carry out their responsibilities (listed below) with patience, enthusiasm, compassion, and with the utmost respect for our animals.   • Live within 20 miles of the UT-Austin campus (preferred)
  • A 4-door sedan or larger vehicle with working air conditioning to transport animals and equipment safely to and from events.
  • Enthusiasm, a sense of humor, patience and an outgoing personality
  • Experience with children preferred
  • Must be dependable, responsible and always on time or early
  • Must be able to learn and recite fun and interesting animal facts
  • Must be willing to have a background check performed
  • Must have car insurance and a clean driving record
  • Position requires extended periods of standing, bending, and lifting (up to 25 lbs).

Preferred Qualifications


  • Safely transport animals to and from events, set-up and clean-up at events
  • Maintain a well-structured event by establishing and and enforcing rules for behavior and procedures
  • Monitor safety and well being of all animals and participants
  • Interact with customers of all ages in a way that fosters empathy, curiosity, and confidence
  • Share your knowledge about our animals and related topics to participants
  • Provide “epic customer service.” Being outgoing, humorous, friendly and a strong age-appropriate communicator are top priorities
  • Read children's books and lead groups of children in singing a song
  • Additional duties as needed


We are looking for weekend staff AND part-time weekday staff, or you can do both! We are flexible around your schedule with varying hours.

  • Weekends: 1-3 shifts (3-9 hours) per day on the weekends. Both Saturdays and Sundays preferred.
  • Weekdays: We release the shift schedule 2 weeks in advance so you can sign up for shifts that work for you on weekdays.


Starting pay is $12.50 per hour plus a $5-$12 gas reimbursement for every event you drive animals or supplies to. Staff average between $13.50 to $18.50 per hour with tips. You receive 100% of your tips.
